Macaroni Fun

Make your next walk a hunt for specific colors (try this any time of the year). This is an easy project that can be made very simple as your time/ materials/ patience demands.

You’ll need:
  • An empty egg carton
  • Paints and paintbrushes
Paint the inside of an egg carton different colors. Encourage the children to mix colors together or add black or white to create different hues.

Join instructor Carling Sothoron, a current Waldorf school teacher and garden educator, for a hands-on introduction to the fun and magic of planting, tending and harvesting fresh fruits and vegetables. Participants will get to cultivate a part of the Oakhurst Garden and prepare delicious recipes using freshly picked ingredients. You’ll experience nature up close as we explore all corners of the garden, dig for critters and make earth art.

Friday, May 17 - Youth Capoeira

Want your child to get more exercise? How about learn to play an instrument? Speak another language? How about all three in one class? Our pequeninos youth capoeira classes offers just that. Classes are available for children between the ages of 4-8. As with adult capoeira all ages/skill levels are taught together. Each 60 minute class includes training in capoeira movements such as the ginga, kicks and defenses along with games and activities designed to aid in sensory and developmental coordination. The youth also learn to play the musical instruments of capoeira and sing in Portuguese.

Head to downtown Decatur on Friday, June 14 from 5-11 pm for the annual Beach Party, brought to you by the Decatur Business Association. Celebrate the start of summer at the famous Ponce de Leon Beach with 60 tons of sand, a kids board walk with all kinds of fun games, live music, dancing on the plaza, a food court, cold beverages and guaranteed great times for all ages!

The Beach Party welcomes headliner A1A, “the original and official Jimmy Buffet tribute band,” dancing and relaxing on the plaza. And for the younger set, Douglas Brake and the Sizzle, Hiss, Pop Band return for a special kid’s concert.
