October 18, 2014
If you haven't been to a Cirque Du Soleil performance, know that below the famous big blue and yellow tents the magic awaits. And under these particular blue and yellow tents lies the mysterious island of AmalunaWritten and directed by Tony Award-winning Show Director, Diane Paulus, Amaluna including tales from Greek and Norse mythology, Mozart's The Magic Flute, and Shakespeare's The Tempest.

From the very beginning you will be on a spectacular ride, as Miranda and Romeo fight to be together, while being entertained by Watermeteors, men launching themselves in the air and a Balance Goddess who will take your breath away. At times, along with the other intimate crowd, you will literally gasp with amazement. I thought my heart was going to stop watching Romeo climb a pole to reunite with his beloved Miranda.

You'll encounter a lizard man, Cali, who also loves Miranda and after capturing Romeo took a moment to celebrate in a delightful juggle.

This was one of our favorite parts of the show!! You try and catch and juggle balls falling out of the sky!

It was my 6 year old daughter's first Cirque experience! Honestly I was concerned if the show would be "appropriate" for her. It is a love story after all. Well not only did she do just fine, She was thrilled! She was on the edge of her seat the entire show (while stuffing popcorn in her mouth of course!).  Note that under the tents its pitch dark at times and there are loud thunderous sounds. There were tons of kids there, as young as 4 years old. Taking your little ones, is definately a personal choice, but know Cirque is known for entertainment for the entire family! I mean there are clowns afterall!

According to the Cirque staff , this is the first show with over a 70% female cast and an all female band. And can I say they ROCKED! "Amaluna is a tribute to the work and voice of women," explains Director of Creation Fernand Rainville.
