Sessions are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm with before and after care available 8:00-9:00 am and 4:00-5:00 pm for an additional fee.

WEEK 1 (June 8 – 12) CREATE DANCE! B.E.S.T. – Body, Energy, Space & Time starts off the summer at CORE Studios in Downtown Decatur. The Dance Artists of CORE Performance Company will serve as Teaching Artists for CREATE DANCE!, leading sessions designed to explore participants’ “BEST” – Body, Energy, Space and Time – as inspiration in the creative process. Sessions will include art projects, exercises, creative writing, and more.

WEEK 2 (June 15 – 19) CREATE DANCE! Making Dances is a choreography workshop where participants apply the “BEST” (Body, Energy, Space & Time) principles under the mentorship of CORE Performance Company Dance Artists and culminating in the creation of original choreography to the musical score from Once on this Island.

WEEK 3 (June 22 – 26) A Musical in a Week: Once on this Island – CORE Performance Company and Decatur Community Players come together in Week 3 to collaborate in a Junior production of the musical Once on this Island. With the support of CPC’s Dance Artists, participants from week 2 will teach the dances they’ve created, and with the guidance of DCP all participants will have the opportunity to learn and participate in all aspects of producing and performing in a live musical.

WEEK 4 (June 29 – July 3) & WEEK 5 (July 6 – 10) Create Your Own Play! Want to see your own work up on the stage? Want to design costumes or choreography? Ever wonder what it takes to put the whole thing together? Then this session is for you! Students work with Decatur Community Players to learn collaborative techniques as they write, direct and perform a completely original play together. Wacky, wonderful and the sky’s the limit. Great for team building!

At the end of each week, students bring their skills to life in a showcase for family and friends. Performances are at 3:00 pm on Friday of each camp week.

Admission:  $250 per child, per week. $200 Early registration by March 15th.

ABOUT DECATUR COMMUNITY PLAYERS (DCP)
Decatur Community Players is a children’s musical theatre troupe providing year round performing arts instruction for children aged 7-17 since 2009. We offer an award-winning after school program, summer camps, and every January we participate in the Junior Theater Festival. Our mission is to include every child who wishes to be involved in a performing arts program, regardless of their level of experience. We strive to inspire imagination and cultivate creativity both on stage and off, while helping children develop communication skills, self esteem and team work. We believe the children should be involved with every aspect of production and we encourage their input whenever possible.

ABOUT CREATE DANCE!
Created by the members of CORE Performance Company, CREATE DANCE! is designed to bring out the dance artist in any child, no matter their age or experience level. By working with various art forms and methods as creative influences – from visual arts to writing and even theatre – children can learn to develop ideas into their own, personally-made forms of creative expression. As they begin to recognize the “dance” in the world around them, participants will learn to use these outside inspirations thoughtfully to create dance and performance that is unique to their experience.
