What is the Story with the Kroger Yellow Bags?

Here is the scoop on the Kroger yellow bags.

According to several news outlets, Kroger announced that it will start to gradually transition to reusable bags for its nearly 2800 locations across the nation.  Kroger CEO Rodney McMullen said in a press release that Kroger was taking a “bold move that will better protect our planet”.  The plan is to stop utilizing plastic bags and move towards paper bags by 2025.  However, does any of this relate to the new “yellow” plastic bags?  Well, it doesn’t.

The truth is, the chain switched from its usual brown-in-store plastic bags to the yellow ones to highlight the retailer’s price cuts.  Most consumers dislike the new bags because they look like Dollar General bags and the bags appear to be thinner and more cheaply made.  Kroger’s spokeswoman Erin Grant said that the yellow bags will not last forever.

“We temporarily changed our bag color to yellow to reflect the new signage in stores,” Grant said.  “It’s only temporary.”

Kroger wants to highlight its “Say Hello to Lower Prices” campaign to call attention to its permanent price cuts across the store. Kroger has placed giant yellow ads on every store’s front door and on the yellow price tags in the store.  Therefore, remember that the yellow bags are really just temporary.
